![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It takes you on a journey through several of the nine realms, including Jötunheimr but not Asgard, as Magnus and his friends take on several different foes in order to delay Ragnarök. The plot was so much fun and full of action. Mainly because the book is about Norse mythology and I love Norse stuff but also because it’s about an older teenager. Mangus Chase and the Sword of Summer had me on board from the very first page. It’s a classic Rick Riordan book and it included all of the elements I love about his book. I will be reviewing this entire trilogy over the coming days so look out for those! It’s been a hot minute since I reviewed a Rick Riordan book so I won’t link to my previous reviews. Rick Riordan is an American author who is best known for his novel Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. He has written several series based on different pagan religions and their mythology including Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Heroes of Olympus, and The Kane Chronicles. His uncle tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god. ![]() Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers. One day, he’s tracked down by an uncle he’s never met-a man his mother claimed was dangerous. Summary: Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. ![]() ![]() He was born in a Poland controlled by Russia and then during the First World War he was held captive, suffering at the hands of the German army, then the Russian army after the war. What I liked about this book: I really enjoyed this book from start to end but I think my favourite part is Abel’s early life. Some chapters are quite long, so you forget what has been happening with the other character when you return to him, but other chapters are so compelling that you don’t want to leave that character’s story line for one chapter. The book follows the two main characters from birth through their lives, dedicating alternative chapters to each character. I would say a lot of the story is descriptive rather than dialogue, but this suits the style of the book as you are taken through various decades and different parts of the world. ![]() At no point does the storyline let up it never drags or loses the pace for a moment. Not only does this book have many pages (550) but there is so much storyline crammed onto every page that you feel you are reading several books, not just one. William Lowell Kane and Abel Rosnovski, one the son of a Boston millionaire, the other a penniless Polish immigrant – two men both born on the same day on opposite sides of the world, their paths destined to cross in the ruthless struggle to build an empire.Īn unputdownable tale, spanning sixty years, of two powerful men kinked by an all consuming hatred, brought together by fate to save… and finally destroy… each other. ![]() ![]() ![]() This 700-paged book begins when seven-year-old Christopher and his mother Kate move to a small town in Pennsylvania to escape Kate’s abusive ex-boyfriend Jerry. So part of the enjoyment for me was delving into a book very different from other books I’ve read. In fact, Imaginary Friend is a book totally outside of my ordinary-its genre could be considered horror or psychological thriller, while I typically read standard fiction. ![]() (Sidenote: and if you haven’t read The Perks of Being a Wallflower, do that too!) ![]() This one caught my eye because as a high schooler, Perks was my favorite book, and although Imaginary Friend promised to be nothing like its young adult masterpiece predecessor, I was excited to crack into it because I love Chbosky’s writing and how he tells a story. If you’ve read and loved The Perks of Being a Wallflower like I have, then the fact that Imaginary Friend is written by Stephen Chbosky may intrigue you as well. ![]() ![]() ![]() Don't make another decision about money until you've read it. ![]() Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor, author of Aftershock: The Next Economy and America's Future, Chancellor's Professor of Public Policy, University of California, Berkeley "This is not just the best book about women and money that I have ever read, it is the best book about money-beautifully written, wise, accessible, practical, and profoundly healing.
